Artist Statement

yamil-orlando-portrait

In general I am interested in migration as a rhizome that leads to dissimilar theoretical points.
I move around the dynamics of Net-Art, to develop much of my work. At the time of execution of a work in a network, the interaction established between it and the users is very important, determining the product that the spectator will later consume. I take into account the connectivity situation of the context in which I find myself producing a work, thus determining the elaboration strategy. In recent times the web 1.0 has become an archaic, but, nevertheless, sometimes I return to it if necessary. The current circumstances have led me to use the web 2.0 model mostly, however, I keep researching the new 3.0 model. The original character of most of these productions is given by the time of exhibition, outside of this period of time the work is a version of thousands in the network.

Within my research, I often dig into the social strata to find particularities within dissimilar communities.

I am interested in video as a documentary, not only to highlight elements of reality but also to create them using images taken from context or visual content found on the network, as well as create fake characters in whole or in part (sum of real stories in one ), this has led me to handle concepts such as post-truth, fake, construction and deconstruction of a reality, among others.

Paul Wesenberg
As a painter he has been working for several years on various procedures that model an external influence on the layers of paint on the canvas and, most importantly, the canvas itself. It is about the accelerated aging of the surface, but also about the interventions and destruction. In particular, that could be very promising in order to be able to freely create the contrast between the narrative and the surface. His concrete goal during the residency is to develop a new pictorial surface through substantive modulation of the color and the controlled environmental impact, which can ensure a corresponding material implementation for his subjects.

Press release :

Artist statement
I think i have always questioned whether i wholeheartedly accepted the subjects i met.
I want to record my residence and its surroundings, which have changed constantly since my childhood and frequent moving and becoming an adult.
I wandered around various areas of Korea, Berlin documenting the landscapes.
When i laid out the photographs I could notice which things selected to look at and where my footsteps has stopped. seem to have remained in my memory as a kind of unknown oddness.
since then, I have worked with the theme ‘Improvise Collecting of Landscape’.
When I work I don’t really plan ahead. Everything is decided instantaneously in the process of my brush work.
I like the feeling of black and white. I think it is more abundant and it is a device that makes a Painting more like a Painting.
There is a certain sentiment that forms when the limited hues meet with the subject.
I like the feeling of black and white.

I also tend to purposely limit the use of colors The landscapes lonesome and with almost no movement.
As I painted certain landscapes. I thought I must stay with those landscapes while I painted them. I believe it is important to have a keen eye for the thing that enter my sight. I want to become an artist who paints them better.

The topic of translation is a very interesting subject for me.
The theme of my work is ‘Improvise Collecting of Landscape’.
When I encounter an impressive scene or subject. I tend to think a lot about.
I think that this topic always contains meaning and content of translation.
Collecting and translating the scenery and memories of my surroundings are important records and processes for me.

E as R. A motion-tracking sound and visual piece by Morgan Jenks.March 23rd, 24th & 25th.Berlin

La Dolce Berlin is pleased to introduce our next exhibition :

E as R by Morgan Jenks

Interspace4Screenshot2

March 23rd 18h-22h                                                                                                                  March  24th  at 18h-22h                                                                                                             March 25th at 17h-21h

E as R is an ongoing series works by Morgan Jenks featuring motion-tracking sound and visual pieces. The pieces speak to the artist’s preoccupation with a sense of alienation which seems to result from the intensification of virtual experiences amidst the commodification of attention and of relations to nature.
Jenks gathers digital recordings outdoors as a way of re-approaching the non-man-made from a technologized habit; usually in marginal spaces of “undeveloped” causeways, medians, and creeks between paved terrains where plants and animals are allowed to grow as they may.

The recordings are crafted into interactive systems, efforts to formalize the artist’s aesthetic appreciation and reverence for both the wild and the technical, but also engage the audience with the degree to which they are insulated by contrivance.

The interactive aspect of the systems undermines expectations of user experience (such as precision control and goal achievement) which have become ubiquitous in digital media and CAD tools. The motion tracking causes the works move directly under human input, but at a certain point they defy direct manipulation, kicking up fits and following their own internal structure, or not moving at all. The encounter with the potentially sublime yet passively malleable natural object abstracts and dissolves to reveal the underlying elements of digital simulation.

Technology is arguably the natural manner of humans, and technology – along with all of human activity – is encompassed within the realm of natural possibility. However, humanity’s practices of colonizing and instrumentalizing nature are out of balance with the cycles of our ecosystems. We see this more as our ability to sense and measure the world deepens. Where do we find ourselves and what do we decide to do?

Bio

Morgan Jenks (b. 1985) is an audiovisual artist based in central Texas, working in real-time and interactive media, performance and music production. His practice started from an enchantment with the emergent possibilities of generative art and videogames. Much of his recent work has taken gardening and outdoor exploration as source material for digital abstraction, complicating the line between idealism and cynicism. Jenks has presented work at CICA Museum in Gimpo, South Korea, the Telfair Museum Jepson Center in Savannah, Georgia, The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia, and various other venues across the US.

“Contact ” – sound installation by Lorena Larraz, Saturday, January 20th at 18.00 h-Berlin

Art Aia-La Dolce Berlin is pleased to invite you to “Contact ” a sound installation by Lorena Larraz on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at 18.00 h at our venue.
matlab_detail2

Testimonies of abuse and trauma are daily shared on the internet and social media, redefining our processes of sedimentation, internalization, and expulsion of information, while offering a space for discussion and to question our social and mental structures.Accompanying Silvia Federici in the conjugation of capitalism (Calibán and the Witch,2004) we discover how we have ended up confronting a system whose linguistics, spatiality, bureaucracy, and politics, undermine the condition of the ‘other’. The social body, bureaucratic organisms and our modes of behavior follow the rear of the frictions evidenced in the online space and demonstrate our lack of means to face and subvert the violent foundations of our society.

‘Contact’ emerges as an analysis of the influence that the internet and social networks exert in the configuration of our means of empathy and assimilation of violence. Using Matlab programming language, different testimonies of abuses shared online, images and texts, have been translated to obtain three RGB matrices adaptable to the audible sound spectrum. The audios are propagated later in the gallery’s space through 3 synchronized speakers, recreating a conversation of digital noises and questioning our communicational in/ability and emotional literacy.

Artist´s Bio/Statement

Lorena Larraz (b. 1993, Huesca) is a Spanish artist based in Berlin. Having studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid (2011-2016), her work has been exhibited internationally, including shows at the Feevale University (Novo Hamburgo, BR), Sala AMADIS Injuve (Madrid, SP), White Concepts Gallery (Berlin, GE), amongst others.

She is interested in our current understanding of otherness, our modes of internalization of violence and the various relationships and dynamics that they generate. She has been recently awarded an Ayllón Scholarship for Artistic Residencies, by the Painting and Restoration Department of the UCM, and received the prize City of Ayllón. Previously she has also been awarded by the Santander Bank and Spain’s Ministry of Education and Culture.

Resident Artists : Beatrice Lopez (NOR) Kelly Leonard (AU)

We are very excited about the development of a new project – the Arts Territory Exchange Residency in Sustainable Practice will be an offshoot programme to their ‘residency by correspondence’ and has been formed in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Practice in the Arts (CSPA). One existing ATE pairing per year will be offered the opportunity to develop and hone their practices in relation to ideas of ecology and sustainability- they will also have the chance to bring a collaborative project to fruition with tutorial support from a number of ‘expert’ academics and artists in the field and will be offered a space to meet face to face, work in a shared studio, put on their own exhibition and present their work to the public through events and talks.

This residency ‘space’ will be hosted by Art Aia- Creatives/ In/ Residence which is a cultural Centre and creative residency programme located on an eco-farm in the Friulian countryside of Northern Italy in the Province of Pordenone. Art Aia shares many crossovers with the interests of the Arts Territory Exchange including a contextual interest in the polarities between the ‘international’ and the ‘local’ and a facilitation of cultural activities which serve to remove and break down barriers to communication across borders. To this end Art Aia is strongly committed to a promotion of exchange and collaboration between artists from different nationalities and backgrounds and offers a space where artists can spend time studying, developing new projects, host workshops, seminars and hold exhibitions.
